Doubletrace AB's comments on SFI's press release about file-sharing allegations

Following the Swedish Film Institute's (SFI) press release this morning on the PWC study of file-sharing allegations against SFI, Doubletrace AB provide the following comments.

What´s obtained so far about PWC's investigation neither confirm nor deny that people with access to SFI's network would not have been involved in the spreading of the illegal material. We look forward to the results of the ongoing police investigation in this matter.

In its investigation, PWC has not had access to all the data contained in the matter. PWC has been offered an exchange to broaden their investigation, but they have for various reasons declined.

Thus we cannot see how SFI can draw such far reaching conclusions as they do in their press release based on the report from PWC.

Some brief comments on what is said in the press release:

Quote: "The Film Institute has not had the equipment for scanning"
Comment: The material spread has never been scanned, but has been produced by a different technique, known as telsync. Whether there have been equipment available for scanning is irrelevant.

Quote: "The IP address that is reported to have been seen in file-sharing activities belongs to the firewall that was shared by many more than the Film Institute's staff, ie tenants, the public, conference guests and others."
Comment: This fact indicates very poor IT security. It´s SFI´s responsibility to maintain a relevant level of security for their IT-networks

Quote: "When PWC examined if at all possible to share files from the network, they were successful, but not in the same way that has been indicated or with the approach used on the Pirate Bay."
Comment: There has thus been possible to share files on the network. It was also in other networks than Pirate Bay where the files were made available. The computer that was "hiding" behind the SFI Internet gateway connected via a DC++ client in a so-called "passive mode".
